WHAT A WAY TO START THE SEASON!!!!!!!!
Hello everyone, this is Coach Hagerty again writing to you on a very cold Thanksgiving night. Well the season started with a 35 to 33 loss, but the heart that the boys showed me at Rich Central made me realize the true potential this years team has. It also showed me that the future of the program looks good because my young boys came out and fought with everything they had. That’s all I ever ask out of my boys. I hate to lose, but if we are going to lose I want to go out fighting and that is exactly what we did. We fought till the end, and even when we knew we couldn’t win my 160 pounder Rashid Washington went out and stuck an 08/09 State Qualifier in the first round. My boys made me really proud and definitely added to my holiday weekend.sherlock holmes

The Season Starts Tonight
Hello everyone, this is coach Hagerty and tonight we start our season out in Olympia Fields against Rich Central High School. It is going to be a tough match to start the season with, but the boys and I are looking forward to the challenge!!! The roster we have wrestling tonight will be changing in the upcoming weeks as people are able to drop to the new weight classes, and we will only get stronger from this point on. We also have a few boys missing because they have to leave for Thanksgiving early, but Rich Central is in the same position so I am sure that will even itself out. The JV will also be wrestling tonight so a lot of the new boys that I talked about in my last post will get their first chance to step on the mat. Tonight they truly become Wrestlers. Well Happy Thanksgiving everyone, I hope you have a great holiday!!!!!

Good Group of Freshman so far!!!
Hey everyone this is Coach Hagerty. The season officially starts Monday and it looks like we may just have a really good group of Freshman this year. The last couple weeks we have had a lot of young kids come out for conditioning; no different from the last couple seasons, but the difference this year is they are all sticking around so far. The other coaches and I put it on them really hard during the conditioning weeks leading up to the season to both get them in shape and find out who has the heart to really be a wrestler. Last year I was looking at a lot more faces the first day of conditioning then I was the last day of conditioning that’s for sure. This years group is very different though. They came together right away and all seem very determined to be able to call themselves Gage Park Wrestlers. I have not seen much of them on the mat yet because we can’t start practice until Monday, but what I can see is that they have heart and if a kid has a lot of heart then they have a lot of potential in my book. I just hope they can stay as motivated as they are now when we are on the mats and the real work begins!!!
